Experience the Sam Muen Tub Festival in Feuang District, Vientiane Province
9–14 December 2025

If you’re looking for a truly local cultural experience in Laos, the Sam Muen Tub Festival in Feuang District is a beautiful event to explore. This annual celebration takes place from 9–14 December 2025, bringing together tradition, community, and lively activities in one of Vientiane Province’s peaceful rural areas. The festival begins on the morning of 9 December with a traditional almsgiving and water-blessing ceremony, a gentle and meaningful way to witness local spiritual life. In the afternoon, students from schools across Feuang District perform traditional dances in a friendly competition that highlights the community’s talent and cultural heritage. The following days are filled with local sports and games that create a cheerful village atmosphere—maklae seed-spinning on 10 December, tug-of-war on 11 December, and kataw (rattan-ball) matches on 12 December. On 13 December, the official opening ceremony brings the community together, and on the evening of 14 December, the festival closes with a special performance by the National Theatre of Laos. It’s a wonderful opportunity for foreigners to see Lao traditions up close, meet friendly locals, enjoy countryside scenery, and take part in a festival that is rarely experienced by tourists. If you’re in Laos in December, this is a unique cultural event worth visiting.
