The Boun That Luang Festival has officially begun in Vientiane!
This is the most important Buddhist celebration in Laos, dedicated to the nation’s greatest symbol — Pha That Luang, the majestic golden stupa that represents faith, unity, and identity of the Lao people.

Lao people believe that Pha That Luang enshrines a sacred relic of the Buddha. Because of this, paying respect at the stupa brings great merit, blessings for the family, and good fortune for the year ahead.

The three-tiered architecture of the stupa reflects the spiritual journey:

1️⃣ Life in the human world
2️⃣ Building virtue and compassion
3️⃣ Reaching the path of enlightenment

To the Lao people, visiting That Luang during this festival is not only about religion — it is about honoring their heritage and expressing gratitude to the land they call home.

During the festival, locals show respect by:

  • Offering candles, flowers, and incense to the stupa
  • Participating in chanting and meditation
  • Giving alms to monks early in the morning
  • Wearing traditional Lao outfits as a symbol of pride
  • Greeting others with kindness and good wishes

Every action comes from the heart — with faith, peace, and unity.

The surroundings become alive with:
✨ Wax castle processions
✨ Traditional music and dance
✨ Delicious local food stalls
✨ Handmade crafts and bright cultural displays
✨ Families traveling together to celebrate

It feels like the whole country gathers together in one place — a festival of joy and devotion.

Special Highlight — Alms Giving (Nov 5)

On November 5, starting at sunrise, thousands of monks will gather around the stupa as people offer sticky rice, fruit, and flowers to make merit.
It’s a moment filled with spirituality, beauty, and harmony — a true treasure of Lao culture.

Come and Experience It!

The celebration has already begun — so invite your friends and join the journey to honor Pha That Luang together!
Discover the beauty of Lao traditions, learn the meaning behind the rituals, and enjoy the vibrant energy of life in Laos.
