Announcement: Merit-Making Ceremony in Honor of President Kaysone Phomvihane’s 105th Birthday Anniversary
To be held on 12–13 December 2025 at the Kaysone Phomvihane Museum, Xaythany District, Vientiane

A merit-making ceremony will be held to honor the late President Kaysone Phomvihane on the occasion of the 105th anniversary of his birth. The event will take place on 12–13 December 2025 at the Kaysone Phomvihane Museum (Lak 6), Xaythany District, Vientiane Capital.
This ceremony is organized by the National Steering Committee for the Celebration of the Three Historic Days 2025, the Phomvihane family, the Merit-Making Organizing Committee, and all relevant sectors who have joined together with deep faith in Buddhism to prepare 13 merit-making offerings dedicated to President Kaysone Phomvihane.
The event aims to honor and remember his lifelong contributions to the nation and the Lao multiethnic people.
This year’s ceremony also coincides with two important national milestones:
- 50th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Lao PDR
- 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party

Friday, 12 December 2025
(Corresponding to the 7th waxing day of Month 01, Buddhist Era 2568)
Purpose: Preparation and main offering ceremony
Program:
- 07:00 – Worship ceremony, chanting, and recitation of Paritta blessings
- Dhamma talk (two sessions)
- Offering of requisites, alms, and necessary items to 105 monks
- Respect offerings, blessing ceremony, water pouring ritual
This day focuses on setting up merit tables and receiving offerings from the public.
Saturday, 13 December 2025
(Corresponding to the 8th waxing day of Month 01, Buddhist Era 2568)
Program:
- 07:00 – Worship ceremony and offerings
- Alms-giving (Sai Bat) and presentation of merit funds and requisites
- Dhamma talk, blessing ceremony, water-pouring ritual
- Alms-giving to 105 monks
- After the ceremony: monks and laypeople take part in a communal breakfast


Purpose of the Ceremony
This two-day merit-making event serves to:
- Honor the memory and virtues of President Kaysone Phomvihane, a key figure in Lao history
- Express gratitude for his leadership and dedication to national liberation, unity, and development
- Strengthen the cultural and spiritual values of the Lao people through Buddhist practice
- Celebrate major national anniversaries in 2025 with unity and respect
