Cool Season in Vientiane: A Gentle Reminder to Stay Warm and Take Care
VIENTIANE, LAOS — These days, the weather in Vientiane feels noticeably cooler, marking the heart of the cool season in Laos. Early mornings and evenings are especially fresh, with temperatures often dropping to around 15–18°C, while daytime temperatures remain comfortable at around 25–28°C under clear blue skies.
For many locals, this is the time of year to bring out light jackets, sweaters, and scarves. In the early morning, it is common to see people sitting together near a small fire, warming their hands, chatting quietly, or enjoying a cup of coffee before the day begins. The cooler air creates a calm and peaceful atmosphere that feels very different from the hotter months.
Although the weather is pleasant, the sudden change in temperature—especially between warm afternoons and cool nights—can sometimes lead to colds or fatigue. Locals often remind each other to dress warmly in the morning and evening, drink warm beverages, and get enough rest during this season.
For travelers, this is one of the best times to explore Vientiane. The cool weather is ideal for walking along the Mekong River, visiting temples, cycling around the city, or enjoying outdoor cafés without the heat. A light jacket is usually enough, but it is a good idea to keep one with you if you plan to stay out after sunset.
