The Lao–Thai Friendship Bridge No. 5 is a newly opened cross-border bridge connecting central Laos and northeastern Thailand, further strengthening regional transport, trade, and tourism.

Bridge Location
- Lao side: Bolikhamxay Province (near Paksan District)
- Thai side: Bueng Kan Province
The bridge crosses the Mekong River and links Paksan (Laos) with Bueng Kan (Thailand), creating a new and efficient route between the two countries.
How to Travel from Vientiane Capital to the Bridge
Distance: approximately 150–170 km
Travel time: around 3–4 hours (depending on traffic and road conditions)
Option 1: Private Car or Taxi
- Drive northeast from Vientiane Capital toward Paksan, Bolikhamxay Province
- Follow national roads connecting Vientiane → Paksan
- This is the most convenient option for families and groups
Option 2: Bus or Minivan
- Take a bus or minivan from Vientiane’s bus stations to Paksan
- From Paksan town, local transport (tuk-tuk or taxi) can take you to the bridge and border checkpoint
Crossing the Border
- The bridge supports international border crossing
- Travelers must pass through immigration and customs checkpoints on both sides
