Boun Hor Khao Padap Din – Offering Rice to the Departed
One of the most meaningful Lao traditions, Boun Hor Khao Padap Din (literally “the festival of placing rice offerings on the ground”) is a unique Buddhist ceremony that honors the spirits of ancestors and departed loved ones. The festival usually takes place in the ninth lunar month, around August–September, shortly before Boun Khao Phansa (the
